Car parts this time

Finally got around to ordering the trailer hitch stuff for the Durango. the hitch, wiring for both the 4-pin and 7 pin plugs as well as a top of the line brake controller was only $375 at Etrailer.com. Shipped the same day, too.

Also searched around and ordered a replacement right front strut for the Strat to see if that fixes the noise issues. I hope it does because I hate driving that car right now with all the hideous clunking and grinding.

Everything should arrive Monday, 11/29 while I'm in Charlotte. Guess I'll have something to do over Christmas vacation.

And Still The Vehicular Idiocy Continues

The ride home last evening was uneventful. I thought, maybe, that people had gotten over their automotive silliness for a few days anyway.

Not so much.

This morning, on the lightest traffic day of the week so far, on a fairly straight section of I-10 East right at the 171 mile marker, three idiots managed to attempt to occupy the same space at the same time.

At least, since I was in the backup for about five minutes, it was a fairly entertaining scene. A small, red Toyota or Nissan pickup on it roof facing the wrong direction just off the right shoulder, along with another vehicle I couldn't really see because it had it's lights on in the ditch facing up towards the road on the right, in addition to a small beater car, maybe an older Camry off into the woods in the median and totally covered by vines and shrubbery.

EMS and fire department were already on scene, so there was no one left in the vehicles.

I LOL'd and cheered at the entertainment as they did manage to break up the monotony of my normal Friday drive to work.

Get a Government Job.

It must be nice to not have to use any portion of your brain, but still get compensated at about twice the rate of a non government flunky.

I've spent the last month or so not really battling with the Louisiana State Department of Revenue as standing awestruck at what they made me do so they could clean up their records.

To be honest, I did misread the LA tax code and not file taxes for someone in 2008 because we were only owed $5.00 and it was more of a hassle than the $5 was worth at the time. That person had unfortunately, made just enough to have gone over the minimum required to not file taxes.

I guess someone in the tax department did an audit and noticed that no return was filed so the started sending me letters asking for documentation.


Luckily, I was able to dig it all up and sent them the tax returns as requested.

About two weeks later, even though I had written them a note saying I didn't care about the pittance of a refund, they wrote me another letter demanding copies of the W2's for the returns.

I was actually able to print them out and ship them off.

Now, about two weeks later, I arrived home from work to find a $5.00 check from the LDR in my mail box.

I wonder how many hours of some person making $50/hour's time they just wasted to gather all of the paperwork and send me $5 that I told them I didn't care about.

Oh well, I guess my little part of the Louisiana tax system will now pass their internal audits.

'Tis the Season...

For life changing car accidents.

I'm not sure why it happens, but it does down here, every year like clockwork. The week before Thanksgiving through the week after New Years, everybody completely loses their minds when they get in a vehicle.

It started yesterday. The traffic was fairly light compared to normal but I saw two injury accidents on I10 on my way to work and then there was the rig that flipped over on my way home that I posted about last evening.

This morning was more of the same. I-12 east is still closed near the Amite River Bridge because of a trailer truck accident. It must be a good one as the cameras in that area are not trained on it. I also saw another pile up on I-10 west at the Acadian Thruway exit while I was passing through eastbound.

Again, the traffic level was very light this morning, but people are just driving distracted.

Be careful out there, Somebody is probably counting on you coming home for the holidays.

This can't help the afternoon commute

Checking the traffic before leaving this afternoon and here is the scene I find. Tractor Trailer flopped over in the governor's curves on I110. Luckily, it is in the south-bound lanes, but I'm sure that by the time I get there the rubberneckers on my side will have cause at least two more wrecks.

Busy weekend

Cleaned out the attic yesterday and bought another 23 rolls of R30 rolled glass.

Layed all of the new insulation this morning. Probably need about another 10-15 rolls to really finish up the attic, but it's much better than before. I think that the mouse droppings were contributing more to the R-value than the nearly 25 year old blown cellulose. I also noticed that whenever the previous owners had a piece of carpet padding left from a job (they were contractors) they seemed to have thrown it into the attic in an attempt to mimic insulation.

Water heater is finished. Snaked the wall and ran the new wires for the remote controller. Mounted that in the hall near the main thermostat. That is working very well.

And finally, I changed all four corners of the brakes on the Durango. This is the second time I've done the fronts and Autozone gave me a free set because of the lifetime warranty. (It was definitely time as the passenger's side had just started to scuff the outside of the rotor. No damage to the important part, though.)

The rears were also shot. But 96,500 miles on the OEM rear brakes is pretty good in my book.

The pedal is a bit softer than I'd like , so I guess we'll run them for a few weeks and bleed them to see if I can stiffen it up a bit.
