Next Project

Alrighty. Since there is nothing left on the exterior of the house that is pissing me off, it's time to tackle the greatest annoyance of the entire house. The master bathroom. I didn't take any pictures of the before, but it had the largest, most hideous fake pink marble whirlpool tub you've ever seen. This house was built in 1986 and I'm pretty sure the tub and sink were ten years out of date then. To top that off, there was no shower, so the bathroom was about useless.

Here are the first pics after a day of destruction and minor framing and insulation work.

You can see the bulkhead I constructed where the builders kicked the wall out past the actual edge of the house to extend the bathroom. The original dimwits had actually just drywalled around the double 2x10's and created a ridiculous notch that ran the length of the room against the wall. As I was tearing it apart, I figured out why the bathroom was always brutally hot during the summer; There was no insulation above the drywall and it was open to the attic. (I had to evict an entire family of spotted insurance salesmen when I pulled down that part of the ceiling.)

Now, I'm just going to box it off after screwing 2x4 studs in place to bridge the gap. I'm leaving the ceiling. (Mona gets to strip the popcorn.) But I'm gutting the rest of it to the studs and starting from scratch.

I'm going back with a 72"x42" jetted tub with a proper shower and tiled shower walls and backsplash. Not sure of the pattern and not sure about anything else yet, but I'm going to take my time with this project.

It's not like it is currently any less useful than it's been for the last seven years.

Well, There's Your Problem...

http://www.wafb.com/story/20133212/huge-tanker-fire-leads-to-evacuations

Very bad night at a little polymer mixing plant about a mile from the house. It will be interesting to see what the cause is. We didn't evacuate as the shelter is half the distance to the conflagration as we are.

A plan for the republicans

As I've been reading the election post-mortem as told by some non-Romney voting Paulistas, it appears that the reason that the republicans lost the white single female vote is because they talk about abortion too much.

I certainly agree that some of the answers given to loaded questions during the campaigns from the Obamedia were, shall we say, less than adequate. (And by "less than adequate" I mean "What the fuck were you thinking? You couldn't come up with anything else but THAT you dipshit?!) All that being said, if social conservatives are going to run on that type of platform, they should realize that the Obamedia will ask them those questions so they really ought to have a properly composed answer ready.

(Just once, I'd like to see Candy Crowley ask Bill Clinton, " So, have you stopped getting hummers from the interns yet?" Conveniently for the dems, as the anti-self-control party, those questions will never be asked.

Another tack I don't think was addressed enough in the campaigns was immigration and the effect it is having on the job market in this country. If you import an additional million people per year, they will have to find work somewhere. With nearly 15% total unemployment if you include those who have dropped out of the labor force and those who are underemployed, it is hard to see how mass illegal immigration is helping anyone or anything. (Other than building a new demographic that will never vote republican.)

Considering those points, here is my plan:

Given: 1) Single women will vote for those who will give them access to free birth control and free abortions on demand with no restrictions.

and 2) Single women need jobs and may vote for those who find them jobs:

Proposal: The republicans should immediately propose a program of mandatory abortions and sterilization for all illegal immigrants. This will show single women that republicans care about their access to safe and legal abortions as it will provide for a great deal of practice for doctors and hospitals. It will also most likely lead to a mass exodus of pregnant illegals and possible the rest of their families paving the was for an improved job market or at least reduced welfare spending at the state level.

Simple. Clean. Efficient. Fear not, Government knows best.
