Dinner in Santa Rosa, NM

Heading home tomorrow.

Our guide, was injured on Monday afternoon while on our way to Ely, NV via some wonderful dirt roads. He was looking back to see how we were faring, blew a turn and high-sided his R1200GSA. We were able to tie-wrap and duct-tape the bike together so it was rideable. He was in quite a bit of pain but we made it 40 miles on dirt roads to the nearest pavement and then made it an additional 225 miles back toLas Vegas.

While heading out on the dirt, our other rider caught a rut and tank-slapped himself and his bike into the bushes. We got his bike patched up and finally made it home. His right shoulder is sore, but we rode today and he's ok for the ride home.

Our guide is not so lucky. His father, a doctor, checked him out and believes he separated a rib from both the sternum and spine. He doesn't have enough strength in his right side to safely ride home, so he will be flying home Friday and shipping his bike back.

We're leaving tomorrow about 0700 to get to Santa Rosa, NM for day one. Day two will get us to Arlington, TX, and Saturday should get us home.

Found the parts

Amazingly, HDLV had the parts in stock. I picked up a spare set as well.

Hoover Dam

Lost a bolt

Shifter pivot bolt loosened up and fell out on the way around the north end of Lake Mead to the Valley of fire. Fixed it by using the rear brake pivot bolt and sleeve.

Mechanical Equipment Update

So far, the Buell is faring spectacularly. The only damage is a cracked right read turn signal cover and a blown left fork seal. (The fork angers me significantly as I paid the dealer to change the fluid and go through the front end not three months ago. And it blew on the trip out. The oil was gone by the time we arrived Saturday.

The other two bikes have not fared so well.

Homemade biscuits, farm fresh eggs, bacon, and game sausage with homemade fig & pomegranate jam. Hard to take.

Vegas

Made it. Great ride today on US 70 and 93. Awesome roads . Weather held out as well. We were sprinkled on a little bit but nothing heavy. We'll see what tomorrow brings.
