24

Kinda surprised at the "24" marathon this Sunday. They must like that show over here.

Neat

An ad for the movie Anaconda just shown on Sky1 had "Take My Breath Away" playing in the background.

Gas

Try 91.9 pence/litre. That is about $7.60/gallon. God bless the USA!!

Wow.

Everything over here is literally twice the cost of the US. Cigarettes for 6 pounds 40. That's nearly $13 a PACK!!! Cars are just nuts too. $25k for effectively a chevy Aveo. Interest rates of 10+%. Mcdonald's double quarter meal for $9. I don't know how these people live.

Cricket

I've been watching the Cricket world cup. What an odd game. Australia has been crushing New Zealand.

Looks like the 'bowler' bounces a softball at a 'batter' the ball must hit three stumps behind the batter if the batter doesn't smack the ball out of the marked ring. If it is hit, the batters run back and forth and the score goes up somehow. I think you can be thrown out if the ball is put in play without going out of the rope. Phew. I'm sure, like the card game sheepshead, it all makes sense to somebody.

2-Pac lives

Our waitress at dinner didn't realize that 2-Pac was killed in 1996. She called another waitress over to confirm and 4:1 2-Pac is still dead.

Crime in the UK

The uproar around here is a mother that goaded her small children to fistfight for entertainment. Everyone is appalled that no one received jail time. Sheesh. We can't impound nutzo foreign nationals without offending liberals and here they want jail time for a kid-fight. Definitely different over here. But the beer must legally be served in full pints. I guess that can make up for a lot.

767 is a large aircraft

Not really the thought I needed before takeoff on a 7.2 hour flight, but having been to the Trade Centers and now on a 767, I can see how that went.

Sheesh.

Perfectly clear weather and these idiots can't fucking figure out how to drive the jetway. I'm starting to be more glad I have another 3.5 hour layover.

New York Sucks

On the ground at Idlewyld. Someone must have sneezed downtown because we're sitting on the taxiway for the last 45 minutes waiting for the ramp to empty of planes because they had to change runways for the wind direction. Oh well, 11 hours to go.

Cincinnati Northern Kentucky Airport

Sitting in terminal B waiting on my next flight. I think there are more employees in tge terminal than travelers. Unless the government is seriously subsidizing this place, it is a money-losing bottomless pit.

Although, a very well appointed and maintained pit.

Back from the races

Here are a few pics from yesterday's Samsung 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. Great race all around.

This is a series of 20 shots of Jeff Gordon leading Lap 1 and the ensuing melee. (That's 20 of 407 taken.)

Let Them Eat Cake

New Jersey Governor Corzine nearly killed as passenger in accident that barely injured driver.

Maybe he should've been obeying the law and wearing his seatbelt?

I guess laws don't apply to politicians. I wonder if they'll give him a ticket?

Who'd'a Thunk-it?

I was about to issue a new list with Al Sharpton and all the other hypocritical, race-baiting, demagogues as the UOM but I have decided to hold off for a bit.

From Drudge:
SHARPTON VOWS MORE: 'It is our feeling that this is only the beginning. We must have a broad discussion on what is permitted and not permitted in terms the airwaves'...

Thank God. I freakin' HATE Rap music. I can't wait until all of that no-talent jive bullshit is removed from the air for being offensive to black women.

I never thought that Al Sharpton could be a redneck's best friend.

Here are some pics from the H-D dealer where I bought my bike. Pretty neat place.

Imus in a Teapot.

I'm not sure where I was going with that Title, but whatever.

So. People are surprised that Imus made a stupid and fairly un-funny comment on his show last week. I'd wager, that if you searched the transcripts for the phrase, "Nappy-headed" you would find that that was not the first time that phrase was used. Having listened to Imus for nearly 25 years, now, that phrase has a certain Imus-like quality about it. The fact that it ended up being directed at the University of New Jersey's women's basketball team is irrelevant.

All the typical demagogues are working themselves into a lather as usual. I'm sure they're just angling to make a quick buck and will move on the the next poor sucker who isn't politically correct enough in public.

What I find rather humorous in the entire situation and the timing is there is a high-school in Georgia that, UNTIL THIS YEAR, has been having segregated proms. I never heard anyone bitching about that.

Bridge to, uh, where?

Rode the Ulysses across the Pontchartrain Causeway this morning. Pretty neat. I rode it North to South. (Good thing because the 20 kt wind was quartering at my left shoulder.) Anyway, I stopped at the last crossover before New Orleans and snapped a few pics. I got as many as I could before the bridge cops showed up and informed me that I was not allowed to take any pictures. I swore that I had just gotten there and hadn't shot anything. Then I wheelied it out of there pronto. Pretty cool ride overall. You could see several of the sections that were floated away during the hurricane. What amazed me is the fact that the bridge is about 20 feet above the lake surface. That was a FREAKIN' LOT of water that floated these 40' concrete bridge sections away.

An alternative that everyone can love...

Judi Giuliani is being skewered in the press today because a company she used to work for nearly 30 years ago used dogs to demonstrate its surgical products and then euthanized the dogs. Animal rights groups are aghast.

Personally, I think they should have used Guantanamo detainees, but we didn't have so ample a supply back then.
