Tub Alcove complete

Busy weekend.

Well, yesterday, I installed a new circuit for the eventual aerator and sprayer pumps that will come with the new septic system.

Here is that:

Then I started framing around the new tub so I can get to the drywall installation. After measuring it and determining that I was going to have to rip a pile of 2x4's into strips from 1/2" -1.75" thick, I bought a nice table saw. It really does help to have the correct tool for the job. The saw made all the cuts I needed effortlessly. Other than hand notching the bottoms of the new furring strips so they fit behind the tub rail, the saw did it all. I also now understand why I see a lot of construction adhesive used on the TV shows. It is a good third hand and it really does make for a completely solid joint once it dries.

I ended up having to space the plumbing out about an inch so it will be in the proper location once everything is tiled.

Now it's time to drywall.

Installed

Tub is in place, glued, drained and plumbed. No leaks and even the stopper works properly. Now to start framing out the walls around it to the proper depth. (It's square, the angle of the camera makes it looked all torqued up.)

Measure 687 times, no cuts.

This wasn't the easiest thing to get in position.

Plumbing Roughed In

The tub arrived yesterday so I can start installing the plumbing now that I have exact measurements. Tub installation is the next step unless I need to relocate the drain. Then that will have to be done first. It is going to be very close so I'm hopeful. I' really like the tub, but the drain they recommended as fit for the unit isn't quite correct. It will work, but the angle of the upper piece that allows for the overflow and stopper control leaves a bit to be desired. Oh well. Plumbers putty and O-ring lube should make it tight.

I intended to start that today but now I need to run a new circuit for the upcoming sewer system installation so that will take precedence.

Merry Christmas to me

Picture of the collapsed septic tank with "Cousin Eddie" mod and the rainwater diversion canal.

I have an appointment with the parish Health Commission tomorrow to start the paperwork required to replace this mess with a new system. (Unfortunately, we can't just replace the tank as the wastewater standards have changed and you can no longer just drain the grey water into the neighbor's pasture like this system does. Oh well.

Merry Christmas and FYYFF

Hey. This is a quick message for all the anti-gun people out there running their mouths like they know what's better for me than I do.

Josh Brent, the idiot Cowboys player who killed his friend in the car crash a few weeks back, was driving a 512 Hp Mercedes at the time of the accident. That 512 Hp Mercedes is the automotive equivalent of an "assault weapon" as you people like to call any firearm that is black and scary looking.

Until you people recognize that not calling for the immediate ban of all cars over a certain power rating because if you choose to drink and drive in them you are much more likely to kill someone than if you happen to be ashamedly motoring along in a 30 hp Yugo, is the exact same thing you are doing with all these knee-jerk calls for banning scary firearms because they, like the car, can be misused by someone who is mentally deficient, you are not having a conversation in good faith.

If you don't blame the tool in the first death, why blame the tool in the second.

In 2010 there were 34,485 deaths caused by motor vehicles. There were 31,347 deaths by firearms.

Obviously, cars are a bigger problem. If you insist on blaming the tool, at least be consistent.

DILLIGAF

In the last 24 hours, about 3000 (plus or minus) abortions have been performed in the US. Funny. I don't see that on the news.

Racism in an all white town

The media is in a tizzy about a shooting in Newtown, CT.  The town is the definition of non-diverse. The shooter and I'd wager, all the victims appear to have been white.
Whoop-t-doo.

I wish the media would devote equal time to the black on black violence that plagues the rest of the country.  There would be nothing else on TV if they did.

But that might be racist. Or something.

Dusty.

So the bathroom is moving along slowly. The bulkhead is complete and smooth. Now the new heat/vent/light and vent/light are installed and wired. The new bucket for the wall light over the vanity is in and wired and I've started to patch the hole where the old ceiling light was. Next step is the tub.
